Tony Cooke interviews Keith Trump about Biblical Greek and Bible Resources

Apr 26, 2023

Unless you are expert in one of the biblical languages, you may have felt the tension.
- How on earth is that word really pronounced?
- What if there’s someone in the congregation who really knows the Greek language and
my definition of a word isn’t exactly right?
- Will people really benefit if I refer to the Greek, or am I secretly trying to impress
people?
- What are some basic steps I can take to improve my understanding and use of biblical
languages?

A long-time friend, Keith Trump is expert in Greek and Hebrew, and in this interview, he shares
many practical and helpful tips for those of us who are not students of the biblical languages.
Included in this interview is a discussion on typical mistakes preachers make when referring to
the Greek and Hebrew.

I thoroughly enjoyed interviewing Pastor Terry Roberts (Warrenton, MO) regarding his visit to the Asbury Revival in Kentucky. Terry is well acquainted with Asbury, having earned a Doctor of Ministry degree there in church planting. Terry and his wife, Becky, visited Asbury on the weekend of February 18-19, 2023, and he shares tremendous insights about what he observed. You will not only benefit from his thoughts on the current events there, but what we discussed about various aspects of revivals throughout history.

When I was teaching Church History at Charis recently, I had the privilege of interviewing Alex McFarland. After sharing his testimony and background (which included working for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Focus on the Family), he shares some outstanding information about Christian Apologetics.

Alex McFarland is a Christian apologist, author, evangelist, religion and culture analyst, and advocate for biblical truth. He has preached in over 2,200 churches throughout North America and numerous more internationally. He also speaks at Christian events, conferences, debates, and other venues to teach biblical truths and preach the gospel.

If a bridge is out, and someone puts up a sign informing me of that, is that a negative thing? Does a person really love me if they see me heading toward catastrophe and neglects to warn me? Jesus said more about hell than any other person in the Bible, and yet he was (and is) the greatest expression of love ever known or revealed to man.

When John Wooden coached men’s basketball at UCLA (he led the team to ten national championships), he was a stickler for details, and he was a very strong proponent of teamwork. He even taught his players the precise way to put on their socks and to tie their shoes to help prevent the formation of blisters. Wooden insisted that this would help keep the players healthy and on the court. Even when it came to putting on their socks and tying their shoes, Wooden was essentially saying, “We don’t do it that way; we do it this way.” One year, his star center, Bill Walton, decided that he did not want to observe Coach Wooden’s guidelines regarding hair. “You don’t have the right to tell me I have to wear my hair shorter and not have facial hair,” Walton told him. Coach Wooden responded, “You’re correct, Bill, I don’t have that right. I just have the right to determine who’s going to play. We’re going to miss you, Bill.” Walton immediately got a hair cut, shaved, and came directly back to practice. Today, many would consider John Wooden old-fashioned and out of date, but he believed that the game was bigger than any one player, and he believed that each player represented more than just himself.
